Connaissance de Soi

The cure to selfishness is self-awareness,
but those who tend to lack that act so careless.
They do one nice action amidst their madness,
and forget about the rest, then resist your sadness.
Because they can’t act right they just tend to gaslight,
they throw a match, ignite a fire, and incite a match: fight!
Dukes up, who’s up? And who’s next to throw hands?
To apologize or makes things right you know they’ve no plans.
Give them twenty hours of your time, lucky if you get one back
they’re stuck in selfish ways like poster boards under thumbtacks.
Reciprocation is a foreign concept, jusqu’à la mort
they’ll never try to understand because they’re too immature.
You try to tell them how you’re feeling, but they don’t say, “Okay,”
they’d rather interrupt with “Well” and “But”, despite what you say.
Instead of listening and hearing out the way that you feel,
they blurt out quick responses like your feelings aren’t real.
Defend, deflect, dispute, deny…
then people leave and they wonder why.
Reflection is a foreign language, ils n’essayent pas
they’ll never look back, try to fix, or even see their own flaws.
It sickens me to witness these oblivious fools,
who like to play the game of life and break all the rules
and blame the referees and say the game isn’t fair,
when the instant replay shows the truth, but still they don’t care.
Ignorance is bliss for people focused on self,
who close their eyes so they can’t see the view of somebody else.
Difficult conversations are the ones that bring change,
they’d rather live life dry inside a lie than walk through the rain
and run away and hide and cry like kids stomping feet
and throw a temper tantrum basking in their conceit.
Sometimes selfish people truly don’t think they are,
which means their self-awareness must be all the way up on Mars.
It’s a never ending battle when their vision is poor
and you show them how they’re acting, but they simply ignore.
It’ kind of scary how someone can be so self-unaware
full on oblivious to pain they cause that leads to despair.
Defend, deflect, dispute, deny…
people want respect and they don’t comply.
To take accountability for things is not in their wheelhouse,
each situation is so rough, the texture you can just feel out.
The road to selflessness is self-awareness,
a give and take relationship with patience is fairness.
