I Hit a Pothole

book-3406206_1920
I hit a pothole with my car
that’s all it took to bleed the scar
I didn’t even drive that far,
but still I hit a pothole;
a pothole.

I sang along to songs that played
while looking forward to the day
not knowing that my mood would change,
as my car hit a pothole;
a pothole.

Hello future, I can’t wait
until the day I see your face,
for now the present will be great,
unless I hit a pothole;
a pothole.

Broken portal to my past
I knew this burden yet would last
I wasn’t even driving fast,
but still I hit a pothole;
a pothole.

Why the fuck do I pay taxes
yelling ‘til my heart relaxes
mood swings wane, the moon it waxes,
right then I hit a pothole;
a pothole.

I’ll drive slowly, don’t you beep
as traffic moves like herds of sheep
if passengers should try to sleep,
that’s when I’ll hit a pothole;
a pothole.

Oh just forget it, let’s move on
the holes forever, never gone
as days get ruined dusk to dawn,
all since we hit a pothole;
a pothole.

Ancient roads of cobblestone
were lain by endless hands unknown
a thousands winds since then have blown,
yet no one hits a pothole;
a pothole.
