Danny Man

Danny was a boy, he had mushrooms for his ears (he couldn’t hear).
Danny was a boy, he had gumdrops for his eyes (he couldn’t see).
Danny wanted to be friends with you and friends with me,
But Danny could not see that he was different and a freak.

But Danny boy grew up into a classy man,
He grew out of his face so sweet into one rough and tan.
Danny’s now a better man than you and I combined,
Danny had the vision back when you and I were blind.

We may have won the battle then but Danny won the war,
we thought that he was lesser then but now we see he’s more.

[chorus]
Oh Danny Boy, oh Danny Boy, we did not see.
Have you forgiveness in your heart for them and me?
Danny Boy, sweet Danny Boy, we were so wrong,
every wound we gave to you made you so strong,
hate not for long please, Danny Boy.

Danny was a boy, he had liquorish for his lips (he couldn’t speak)
Danny was a boy, he had marshmellows for his brain (he didn’t know)
Danny wanted to fit in with me and in with you,
but Danny could not tell that he was weird and so uncool.

But Danny Boy grew up into a loving man,
he reached out from his mind nieve to one that understands.
Danny’s now a better man than you and I combined,
Danny had the vision back when you and I were blind.

We may have been the victors then but we’re the ones who lost,
The guilt we feel has followed us down every path we’ve crossed.

[chorus]
