Sliver of Home

It is in me that I find comfort;
not the wind
nor the sea
nor the rain,
for they come
and go as they please.
But I never go,
and even when I have felt lost
a sliver of home
has always made its presence known
under the skin
that at times I have torn.
People set their sights
on the parts of you they desire;
your hair, humor, or heritage.
But I have set my sights within
upon my shadows and blunders
to see if
perhaps
I can’t find that
lonely sliver
and make myself
at home.
