You Can Have Me

A man and a woman embrace under water

In the long winding winters
or the tomb of the sun
in the halls of our fathers
you can have me.

In the moment of truth
or the shadow of night
in the midst of the pain
you can have me.

In the jungles while hiding
or alone on the sea
in the middle of nowhere
you can have me.

In the scope of reality
or the ashes of feathers
in the arms of my sanity
you can have me.

In the portraits of legends
or the graveyards of fools
in the mind that enslaves me
you can have me.

In the forests unhindered
or the taverns of music
in the fields where I can’t breathe
you can have me.

In the sunrise that’s blinding
or the pass of the mountain
in the dark where I can’t see
you can have me.

In the peace that I dream of
or the days that I miss
in the heartbeat of nature
you can have me.

In the city that won’t sleep
or the deathbed I’ve slept on
in the shirts that I don’t wear
you can have me.

Even when I know not what to say,
in truth I never have been far away.
