since now I get to lose it
and I thank you for the cravings
that I’ve squandered after decades.
I thank you for my loneliness
since it may last a lifetime
and I thank you for my memories
since I live life in the past.
I thank you for the rainy days
bringing change and room to grow
and I thank you for a world at war
that I write down page by page.

striving daily to be free
